The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Character: Arwen Undómiel
Variant: Requiem gown
Debut: April 2013
The dress consists of two separate dresses which are sewn together at the neckline.
The underdress is made of ultramarine blue crepe georgette, brilliant blue georgette and white silk jacquard. The dress has an empire waist with princess seams. The bodice and upper sleeves are made of ultramarine crepe georgette. The fabric is embroidered in a floral design and beaded with short, clear, silver-lined bugle beads. The wide skirt part is made of brilliant blue georgette and has a small train. The lower sleeves are made of a white silk jacquard. The pattern of the lower sleeves is a half circle, they are slit at height of the wrist. The neckline and lower edge of the upper sleeves are decorated with a wide embroidered and beaded trim.
The sleeveless overdress is made of saphire blue silk velvet. The dress is just slightly fitted, so it doesn’t require any bust darts or other fitting seams. The neckline es edged with a narrow embroidered and beaded trim. The dress is overlong, has a long train and closes in the back with an invisible zipper.
Embroidery of underdress fabric and trims
All embroidery is done with an ordinary electronic sewing machine. The used fabrics are stabilized with fusible interfacing. The pattern is drawn onto water-soluble nonwoven fabric and traced with a narrow zig-zag resp. a narrow stretch stitch.
The fabric of the bodice and upper sleeves of the underdress is embroidered with violet blue thread in a floral design and is additionally beaded with short, clear, silver-lined bugle beads.
All trims are two-ply and have an overlay of light grey organza. The wide trim at the neckline of the underdress has an underlay of silver metallic brocade. The wide trim at the lower edge of the upper sleeves of the underdress and the narrow trim at the neckline of the overdress have an underlay of ultramarine blue jacquard. All trims are additionally beaded with two types of clear, silver-lined bugle beads, silver sequins and clear, silver-lined seed beads.
I wear midnight blue velvet slippers and a black front lace wig with the gown.
